Abstract

The main aim of the Front Line Demonstration is to demonstrate the improved technology in farmer field for showing the importance of improved practice over farmer practice and make them convince for adopting the improved practice. The present study was conducted on improved cultivation practices in ivy gourd for enhancing yield and economics in Tribal villages of West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh from 2017-18 to 2019-2020. The two practices were planned at a time and each demonstration unit covered 0.4ha of 10 farmers at Buttayagudem and Jeelugimilli mandals of West Godavari during 2017-18 to 2019-2020. The present study pointed out that between two practices, the improved practices recorded more number of fruits per plant (193.23), the highest fruit length (7.10cm), the highest fruit width (2.36cm), the highest fruit weight (14.76g), the highest fruit yield per plant (3.10kg) and more yield per hectare (12.01 t/ha) and concerning economic parameters the improved technology recorded more net profit (Rs. 88,800), benefit-cost ratio (1.89), marginal benefit-cost ratio (3.08) and relative economic efficiency (0.88) than farmers practice. The improved practices include drip, mulch, quality planting materials, IPM practices etc. shown superior results over the farmer’s practices and also adopted by the many farmers in their field for getting more quality yields.
