Abstract

A research study was conducted at the nursery of Department of Horticulture during the year 2019-2020 to evaluate strawberry cultivars under open and protected conditions in subtropical conditions of Punjab. The study was planned with a view to evaluate five strawberry cultivars (S1 -Chandler, S2 Camarosa, S3- Nabila, S4 Rania and S5- Winter Dawn) under two growing conditions (C1- Open and C2-Protected condition) in Randomised Block Design with factorial arrangement. The results of the present study revealed that amongst the strawberry cultivars under study cv. Camarosa was found to be the most suitable cultivar followed by Nabila and Chandler in terms of vegetative growth and yield. The plant characters of cv. Camarosa, Nabila and Chandler viz. plant height, plant spread, shoot number, leaf number, leaf area, number of runners, flowers, fruit set and yield was adjudged better than all other cultivars tried. Out of the growing conditions the open conditions enhanced the vegetative growth of the cultivars under study while the protected conditions of net house improved yield of the fruits under study.
