Abstract

In late December 2019, patients suffering from viral pneumonia due to an unidentified microbial agent were reported in Wuhan, China. From genomic surveillance of clinical samples collected from patients with viral pneumonia in Wuhan, China, a novel coronavirus (termed 2019-nCoV) has been identified. To combat coronavirus pandemic infection, mushroom possessing high nutritional and medicinal values with enriched source of proteins, vitamins, crude fibers and minerals can be used for enhanced human’s immune systems and improve quality of life specially when the patients becomes weaker due to Coronavirus (Covid-19) infection. In China, more use of mushroom was promoted in 2002-2003 when, there was an epidemic of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV) coronavirus that emerged in Guangdong, southern China, in November, 2002 and resulted in more than 8000 human infections and 774 deaths in 37 countries during 2002–03 and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) corona virus (MERS-CoV) which was first detected in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and was responsible for 2494 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection and 858 fatalities since September, 2012, including 38 deaths following a single introduction into South Korea. Thus, use of mushroom in daily life can directly benefit to the human health and fitness in fighting against corona virus infection.
